On Sunday May 31 I attended the BC Child Run in Vancouver. I arrived at the Queen Elizabeth Park Start Line at 7:30 AM and met up with the ladies who were in charge of the volunteers. I was part of the cheer squad along with three other BC, Miss Teenage Canada Delegates. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to hang out with them because I walked with a little girl for the whole race and they must have been way ahead of me because I never saw them again.
It was such an awesome day with an amazing group of kids and their families showing their support for Children’s Hospital, they raised $1,000,000. WOW!! Many of the kids who participated had once been patients at Children’s Hospital and this was a way for them and their families to give back. It was such a feel good race with everyone working towards an awesome goal.
As the kids passed the finish line they were each given a gold medal which they loved and felt proud to wear. There was a carnival after the race for the kids to enjoy, with clowns magicians and many other fun events to entertain families. I helped the rest of our volunteer group clean, and pack up and we took some photos of our awesome cheer squad!
I was so grateful for the volunteer group I was with, they made me feel so comfortable with being on my own in the city and helped me hook up with my Mom (I didn’t know the names of the streets to tell her where I was) It’s always a bit scary being in a large city by yourself, but this is nothing compared to what some of these kids have faced. They are so brave at such young ages; it gives me strength and encourages me to be strong when I feel vulnerable. I can’t say enough about the group of people that came out for this race they all were there to make a difference, and they succeeded! Way to go BC Child Run!! For more photos click here. 👑
