On July 20th I helped out at Center of Gravity, Canada Hottest beach party. This was the 9th year, Monster Energy Center of Gravity was at Kelowna’s City Park July 24 – 26, 2015. Produced by Wet Ape Productions and Union Electronic, the biggest, adrenaline-pumping festival to hit the Okanagan included three days packed with extreme sports, sandy beaches, bikinis, and some of the biggest DJ names in the world. The artists who play at Center of Gravity , COG for short are world renowned such as Diplo, Flo Rida, Will Sparks, D-Wayne and many, many more.
During the day there were sports competitions where you could win some serious money, people traveled from as far away as Texas and all across Canada just to compete in their sport at COG. Beach Volleyball was at the center of it all, it was the biggest game at COG. In fact, COG started in 2007 under the name of Volley-fest. Volleyball is so hot at COG that you will find former and future Olympians alike playing for a total prize pool of $11,500. I was a score keeper and I have never seen such competitive volleyball teams!! One of the ladies that I met was a model for LuLu Lemon. Basket ball was located beside the main vendors and stores!
It showcased some of the best basketball players in the country battling it out in a 4 vs. 4, full court tournament. Teams competed for a prize pool of $5,000 and bragging rights for the year! My Favorite to watch was the different water sports! They showcased a mix of pro and semi-pro wake boarders and wake skaters from all over North America. Using a pulley system instead of a boat that was stretched over a massive pool, built right on Hot Sands Beach.
People watching were so close we would get splashed with water!! Watching the athletes as young as 11 do the tricks was amazing. There were also motocross riders, snowmobile, BMX riders, Skateboarders, Grass Volleyball and Sports which spectators could participate in. Smash into your friends during a friendly game of Zorb Soccer, roll around in BC’s largest Zorb Ball or fly high over Okanagan Lake with Canadian Jetpack Adventures! It was very fun to watch kids get on the jet pack and fly!! It was really fun to score volleyball and to watch all of the other sports take place around me. It was an awesome experience!!
Just a little side note, I leave for nationals tomorrow!! Can’t wait to meet everyone!! 🙂
